Opened in 1973 the "Hexentanzplatz" zoo shows in mostly natural, spacious enclosures a representative width of native animals currently and formerly living in Germany. Walking through our zoo gives you the opportunity to experience our country’s fauna and flora close-by.

Among many others you can find animals such as brown bear, wolf, lynx, fallow deer, mouflon, wild boars, red foxes, capercaillies, golden eagles, red kites, peregrine falcons, otters, black grouses, owls, pine martens, adders, and of course, our emblem – the wildcat.

Not long ago the zoo’s new wolf enclosure was inaugurated, so come and watch our more than 70 species!

As the majority of the animals have the possibility to hide in their rest areas from time to time, the visitors need to be very watchful to discover all of them.
One of the zoo’s main goals is giving endangered species a home, so the collaboration in corresponding breeding and reintroduction programmes is just a matter of course. At present the zoo is collaborating in such programmes for little owls, wildcats, otters and European minks.
